Introduction

The  format of the A2 course is more complex than at AS with schools/students having the option to choose topics.

Assessment is 70% examination (two exams) and 30% coursework.  For greater detail see information on individual units.

Unit four

Continues the social, biological, cognitive and developmental areas introduced at AS and introduces comparative psychology for the first time.

Students are expected to answer three essay style questions, choosing from 15 on the paper.  In practice, due to time constraints on teaching, the choice is usually far more limited than this.

Unit five (synoptic)

The module is split three ways:

Section A revisits individual differences from AS.  At RSS we look at psychopathology.

Section B covers issues and debates within psychology.  At RSS we cover issues (ethics and bias).

Section C ties together all the stuff on approaches, covered at various times throughout the course.

Unit 6 (coursework)

Students are expected to carry out a piece of research of their own choosing, but within strict Board guidelines and then write a report of around 2000 words summarising their procedure, findings etc.
